Hotel in Bodmin
Situated in Bodmin, 31 km from Newquay Train Station, Bodmin Jail Hotel features accommodation with a fitness centre, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. The decision to stay for the night in this converted prison was born out of curiosity. The initial drive into the parking area of the hotel was awfully depressing. Huge tall vertical walls and a massive block like building with tiny windows that box you in. Having parked you take a second look and see a modern tower of glass and smooth contemporary architecture that forms an inviting entrance in the middle of the granite structure. After entering the inner sanctuary via a tunnel through the thick outer wall of the prison block you are greeted by a simple reception pult that whilst mirroring the austerity of the main prison is actually the domicile of a friendly receptionist. She (or he) is happy to give you a smile and listen to your jokes about not having being there for a while and not wanting to stay too long. Nowadays though the reception staff hand out personal magnetic cards instead of accompanying you to your room with a key. There are three floors with rows of cells facing each other on each side of a long central gallery. A glass roof and metal staircases at each end of the block complete the first impression. In former days the architecture was simple but the new architects have done a wonderful job with the conversion. External elevators now connect the floors, discrete openings provide easy access to the restaurants and other public areas. Each hotel room is formed by connecting three cells internally to provide bedroom, sitting room and bathroom. The architects have managed to combine modern elements with colour and soft surfaces to provide a feeling of luxury and warmth whilst at the same time retaining a presence of the severity and spartanism that once dominated. A true work of art, we enjoyed our stay, the restaurant, breakfast in the old chapel and a guided tour of the older non-converted part of the prison provided a highlight to our holiday. Die Entscheidung, in diesem umgebauten Gefängnis zu übernachten, entstand aus Neugier.

It was a bit hilly when on foot, but that's Cornwall and that's what you expect and that's what brings the likes of us, back again and again. One very small point, in and around the centre, we (visitor) gents also need a public 'loo' nearer the shopping area. We found one . . . . eventually, in a large car park after driving around a bit.
Not just a great location for all things Stein, Padstow is a lovely little town with charm, character and lots to see and do. Fabulous scenery in and around the area. Well situated as a centre for touring Cornwall or great for families who want a beach holiday
Bodmin itself is nowhere as nice as it used to be, looks quite run down these days. However it is an excellent base for a holiday in North Cornwall and we usually stay in that area when we visit Cornwall. There are lots of lovely villages, gardens and beaches within easy reach, both towards the north and south coasts, and many really good pubs for dining. The standard of pub dining in that area seems to be very high.
Newquay is like the cleethorpes of cornwall its not very nice but central to get to all the more remote, beautiful places in cornwall suh as crantock bay, padstoe, lustyglaze, st ives etc
Great as a central location for visiting places of interest around Cornwall. Need a car. Not much doing in Delabole itself. We stayed in the Poldark Inn, which had lovely food, and was very friendly.
Falmouth is a beautiful area of Cornwall with great walks, views, stunning gardens close by, great eating places and many events. The area is close to Truro with its lovely cathedral, and which can be accessed easily by car, bus, train or ferry. The Princess Pavilion in Falmouth has a variety of entertainment and there is a cinema in the town. The amphitheatre at Trebah Gardens is a short drive away and offers some great entertainment. It is a short ferry crossing across to St Mawes where there are more great walks and its own castle. A little bit further down towards Lands End is the wonderful open air Minack Theatre. Families will enjoy Gyllyngvase beach which is a short walk from Falmouth town centre and, right on the beach, the Gylly Beach cafe.
A charming old inn conveniently placed for exploring Cornwall. The food was good but on the upper range of prices for this type of food. The staff were helpful and friendly. Our room although perfectly adequate coul do with a refurb.
Despite the road improvements traveling to Cornwall continues to be a challenge! Significant traffic delays between junctions 23 and 25 on the M5 with no apparent cause or reason can add an extra 2 hours to your holiday journey which takes away from a lovely weekend escape!!
If you’re a fan of the British show, Doc Martin you’d enjoy wandering around the village. Narrow passageways, great places to eat and very reasonably priced shops makes this village a good stop on your trip around Cornwall.
Good base to travel all over Cornwall had lots of national trusts to visit. Lots of good eating places . Lots to do in Newquay with stunning beaches, zoo,Aqurium and lots more. Beautiful walks too.
Firstly: price. Have stayed in lots of places in West Cornwall for work in recent years, discovering that the Greenbank Hotel of all places offers competitively priced rooms was a surprise. Second: breakfast. Simply wonderful. They're flexible with menu choices, the food is delicious and you sit looking across Falmouth Harbour. In winter, that means watching the sun come up over the water. Third: Staff. Friendly, polite. An old-fashioned approach to service. Fourth: Parking. Plenty on-site.
The Hotel staff at the Wellington really made our visit. They were very helpful and accommodating. They took extra time to answer our questions and tell us about nearby places that we may want to visit during our stay. We had to check out early to catch a train and I had left a pair of earrings behind. They contacted me first and asked if I wanted them to mail the earrings to me! We had an exceptional stay and will definitely stay there again when visiting Cornwall.
Carbis Bay
Had an amazing stay here complemented by the wonderful owners Margaret and Martin who greeted us with the warmest welcome, they made us feel so at home and the attention to details throughout our stay was so lovely! The breakfast every morning was exceptional and some mornings we enjoyed this whilst sat outside with the most stunning view of the sea, couldn’t recommend staying here enough! We will sure be back when visiting Cornwall ☺️
Penzance
I travel all over Cornwall with work and stay in some of the best Hotels but in Penzance my budget doesn’t stretch far. This quaint little friendly pub is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are very clean and the bed is very comfy! The breakfast which is brought to your room is stunning! Lovely staff that make you feel very welcome. Next door is another pub that serves very good food and again the staff are very friendly.
Port Isaac
The hotel is exactly what you hope for when you plan to visit Cornwall. It is charming and well furnished. Our room was beautiful and had a gorgeous view. Everything was very comfortable and excellent quality. We had dinner the first night, and it was wonderful. (cheese souffle for the win!) The staff on our check-in day was friendly and warm. It's close to Port Isaac, and the private parking was a huge asset.
The Falcon Hotel has been a meeting place for me and my family for as long as I can remember, over 50 years. Together with The Brendon pub next door, The Falcon Hotel is an icon of Bude and in fact North Cornwall. The Falcon Hotel is of historical importance, it is a wonderful building in an amazing location. The staff are local, friendly and always helpful. I look forward very much to returning in the future.
Wonderful large apartment, fully equipped and centrally located. Even nicer than the beautiful photos: tastefully decorated with a maritime, Cornwall theme and impeccably maintained. It's not a budget place, but if you are looking for a beautiful apartment, centrally located with a full kitchen and direct access to Padstow's reknowned restaurants, this is the place to stay. Highly recommend.
Lots of space. If you were staying a while you would easily be able to unpack properly. Good breakfast. Swimming pool available in summer. Very useful folder of information about the hotel and local area. Including the free Wi-Fi code - always appreciate not having to pay for Wi-Fi. Hotel is in an excellent location for accessing both north and south coast of Cornwall.
Charlestown
Super nice little apartment in the quietest of areas. Apartment was very functional and had all the necessities. Short walk to the beach, easy to visit Charlestown Harbor and closeby to grocery, restaurants, bank etc. Easy check in and out was nice. Central location to see Cornwall and still be able to come back to call and quiet. Nice view of the bay very relaxing!
Everything about the Hotel Meudon far surpassed our expectations, from the lovely (and spacious) cottage in which my husband, myself and our two children stayed, to the gorgeous grounds and the absolutely gourmet food we had at each meal. We have determined this will be the only place we stay when we return to Cornwall, and feel so lucky to have found it online.
The staff at this hotel are so friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. Considering this is a hotel at a services it is very well maintained, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The services next door are useful for food and have a small co-op which was handy. It is very well positioned to go either further into Cornwall or back to Devon
Another fabulous stay at the Tremarne Hotel this weekend. Would thoroughly recommend to everyone, it really is a little gem in a beautiful part of Cornwall. Wes and Tam are fabulous hosts and make you feel extremely welcome and comfortable. Food is amazing and the rooms are lovely with great views. Looking forward to returnin
Penzance
The people who work there are kind and considerate, many thanks to them. I liked the Cornwall design. For the dinner, we sat at a table with a great view on the harbor and the blue sea and palm trees. The hotel is very close to a large public parking that is not expensive. It is also quite close to the Scillonian ferry port.
The location is pretty good. Truro wasn't anything special to us and our goal was to visit the rest of Cornwall which we did. We did enjoy having the modernized outlets on each side of the bed. The staff is wonderful and the morning breakfast was very nice. The Co-op store is open later and we visited often.
St Ives
Location in a quiet area, 10-15 minutes walk to train station and Carbis Bay beach, bus stop for St Ives and other Cornwall destinations in front of the B&B. Shop (small supermarket) next door. Nice and friendly owners. Small issue with door hook hanging loose was immediately fixed after we reported it.
Camelford
Everyone were so friendly especially the house keeping (Top Marks for the ladies) and the Bar staff. Breakfast was perfect, Typical English thank god !! , The Golf course is really good. Perfect Hotel for a Golf Tour of Cornwall. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "I´ll be back"
Looe
Beautifully maintained, spacious and historical farm house, formerly of the Dutchy of Cornwall and thoughtful transformed into a 5 roomed well appointed Hotel/B&B overlooking Looe Island and the spectacular bay that has delighted so many holiday makers for many decades.
Tintagel
John runs an absolutely stellar hostel. He is attentive to travelers' needs and even anticipates them.. He is knowledgeable about Cornwall and ready to hear stories of travels and offer tips. The discount at the Tintagel Arms is also a pretty sweet bonus.
The Hotel is in a lovely setting, the pool although a little cool was refreshing and the sauna and spa were a perfect way to finish a week travelling around Cornwall. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The attitude of the staff, without exception, was helpful, friendly and efficient. It was a pleasure to stay at the hotel. If I were to visit Cornwall again, I would certainly stay at the Marazion Hotel.
